LETTER: Worried the Moorgreen Show will not return

Moorgreen Country Show.'The digger dance.
Moorgreen Country Show.'The digger dance.

I read with dismay last week’s Eastwood and Kimberley Advertiser and the news that the Moorgreen Show has been axed this year.

I am even more worried that this historic event, which has been part of the area’s fabric for more than 150 years, may not return.

Yes, times have changed and ploughing matches, falconry displays and dancing diggers might not float the boats of the PlayStation generation.

But I feel there is still a place in our lives and hearts for a country show such as Moorgreen.

Okay, the event might not be able to go ahead in its current format.

But in my opinion that should be seen as a positive.

I understand the reason behind the organisers taking this decision. But let’s involve the public who still flock to the show in their thousands (I know numbers have fallen).

What about investigating if the show could have an evening element, perhaps with live music?

We could keep the countryside backbone to the event but modern twists could be added to capture the attention of the paying public.

Moorgreen supporter,

christmas day baby!

New baby was me

My friend posted a picture on Facebook from the Advertiser and to my surprise there’s a picture of me and my mother on the day I was born.

You have the information that I was born on New Year’s Day with the surname Cook.

Well my name is Jenna Cook and I am 28 years old lol. I now I live in Ilkeston. My mother is Judith Cook (now Barker) and lives in Ripley.

I was actually born at 2.28am Christmas Day in Nottingham hospital, and was the first to be born that day hence the reason we were put in the paper.

It was so lovely to see that picture again especially so close to Mother’s Day lol.

Hope that’s shed a light on the mystery picture lol.
