Local swing seats Ashfield and Broxtowe have been targeted by party donors, topping lists of campaign funding by gifts from companies, groups, and individual supporters.
The two constituencies are among the 20 most marginal seats in the country and have attracted huge amounts of donations from inside the constituency.
In Ashfield, the Liberal Democrats received £99,990 since 2010, including a £22,000 gift from former candidate Jason Zadrozny.
Neither the Conservatives or Labour received any donations in the constituency, according to the latest figures.
In Broxtowe, the Conservatives received the most gifts to aid Anna Soubry’s campaign for re-election, totalling £17,000 while Labour received only £1,500 and Liberal Democrats £2,500.
Across all the 20 most marginal seats, the Liberal Democrats received the most donations at around £460,000.
The Bureau of Investigative Journalism said: “The latest research suggests Lib Dem supporters are bankrolling a fightback in the marginals.
“It suggests the party is concentrating its fundraising efforts to try and cling on to existing seats and possibly to try and snatch other constituencies that also hang in the balance.”
However the single biggest donor to the 20 marginals was Fostermco, controlled by celebrity agent and Labour candidate Michael Foster, who gifted almost £120,000.
