Life-threatening injuries after crash

A man was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries — and two others arrested— after a crash in Underwood.

The smash involved two cars and happened on the B600 at 11.44pm on Monday (March 17).

The alarm was raised and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service received went to the scene where they found a silver Mercedes and a white Volkswagen had been involved.

The emergency response involved fire engines from Eastwood, Ashfield and Stockhill fire stations.

It is reported that one person managed to get out of one of the vehicles before firefighters and paramedics arrived.

The other person — a 21-year-old man — had to be cut free from a vehicle. It is not clear which car he was in.

The 21-year-old was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre with serious injuries and he remains in hospital

After making the area safe, firefighters left the scene more than an hour later at 12.49 am in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The two men arrested have been quizzed on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
