At this time of Remembrance of members of our Armed Forces who gave their lives in the service of our country, it was moving to read the article about the discovery of the remains of Flt Sgt Alexander Bostock in Italy and Cllr Roy Plumb’s amazing experience at his parents’ grave.
However, I think it is unlikely that Flt Sgt Bostock will be laid to rest with his parents, as was suggested.
Since WWI and until more recent conflicts, officers and other ranks have been buried abroad close to where they fell, or commemorated on a memorial for that area if their body was not found.
Flt Sgt Bostock is commemorated on the Malta Memorial.
It is therefore likely and fitting that he will be buried in Italy alongside his comrades.
He is also commemorated on Kimberley war memorial and in memorial books deposited in Kimberley Library.
