A charity night organised by the manager of a local cafe raised £450 for the Mayor of Broxtowe, Margaret Handley.

Money raised from the event at the Kimberley Cricket Club will go to the Mayor’s two chosen charities, the Ryan Lee Trust and the British Legion.

Organiser Nygel Stevenson, who runs Madhatters in the town’s Main Street, said he was ‘overwhelmed’ with how much the community all chipped in to help out with selling tickets and donating raffle prizes.

“It really was the community event I wanted it to be,” he said.

“It was brilliant. Really good fun.”
