Mining coal around Cossall and Awsworth, will be going ahead at sometime in the future, despite any ‘Not on my doorstep’ protests.
The country needs that coal, rather than imports in this day and age. It would also help local economies and provide jobs.
I lived in Eastwood, forty years ago, when they had opencast all the way to Awsworth and Cotmanhay. The valley was restored to its former glory, disruption minimal.
Of course, its beautiful DH Lawrence country, but in his day he could not have stood on any hilltop in the area, without seeing a pit head or slag heap. It can be dug up now or in fifty years time, but it will happen.
