Nuthall’s Vicky Marriott is on her way to competing at a beauty pageant with a difference in April.
Vicky, of Philip Avenue, has been chosen as a finalist for Miss Forest and Fens 2015, seeking to promote well-rounded role models to young women.
The 19-year-old saxophonist and Irish dancer said: “I want to inspire younger generations of girls to become well-rounded individuals.
“I want us to look past the models in fashion magazines and stop comparing ourselves to photoshopped images.”
As part of the competition, Vicky will have to do some charity work and show her commitment to the environment as well as compete in an online popularity contest and be judged for her modelling skills on the catwalk.
For the Miss Eco competition she is doing a charity bike ride in Derby on April 6, raising money for the charity “Beauty with a Purpose”.
She added: “Then for Miss Eco, I’ve got to show I care about the environment by designing a dress out of recycled materials. I’m making mine out of used Nottingham Forest ticket stubs.”
Mum Colette, a deputy sister at City Hospital, said: “I’m very proud of her for getting through. The different elements of the competition makes them think, it’s not just about going up the catwalk.
“We all support her and we’re all very excited.”
The final will take place at the Village Urban Resort Hotel in Chilwell, when women aged 17-24 compete for a chance to enter Miss England 2015.
