ALMOST £1,500 was raised in memory of a prominent Kimberley woman who was involved in the scouts for over 50 years.

Kimberley folk raised £1,463 in memorial donations after Mavis Maltby, heavily involved in the town’s scouts and church, died in December.

People have been making donations since her death and the total was counted up this week.

The money will be spent on memorial benches at Kettlebrook Lodge where the Scouts meet, and a new font at the church – which will made out of the wood from the pews after they are replaced.

Mavis, of Noel Street, died aged 83.

Her daughter-in-law Jane Maltby, also involved in Scouts, said the turn out at her funeral was ‘phenomenal’.

“There were 250 people there. They filled the aisles of the church,” said Jane.
