The county council have announced that from September pupils in reception, year 1 and year 2 at state-funded schools in England will receive a free school meal due to a rise in pupil premium.

Pupil premium is additional funding given to publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils.

Although all pupils in these year groups will be provided with a free school meal, it is important that those families who are eligible to receive a free school meal continue to apply to the local authority to ensure that pupil premium is allocated appropriately.

In 2014-2015, schools will recieve £1,300 for primary-aged pupils and £935 for secondary-aged pupils.
