Eastwood MP Gloria De Piero visited Brookhill Leys Primary School to discover more about the pupils’ popular interactive online blog.
Gloria was given a guided tour of the Eastwood school by head teacher Jacqui Sainsbury and governor Brian Griffin before being introduced to 30 boys and girls in year five.
The computer whizzkids help maintain and run the online blog under the expert guidance of their teacher, who is also the ICT co-ordinator at the school.
During the MP’s visit they taught her exactly how their blog works and revealed some of the secrets of its recent success.
In total the primary school has almost 300 children and they are all encouraged to blog about their school projects, work in the community, extra-curricular activities and general goings-on in class.
Gloria said: “Everyone at the school made me feel so welcome as soon as I arrived. ICT has never been my strong point, which is why I was so excited when I had the opportunity to learn more about the blog.
“It’s great to walk into school and leave having learned something brand new, which is exactly how it should be and it just goes to show that your education really never finishes.
“ICT is such an important subject and it’s reassuring to know that we are equipping our kids with skills that will really benefit them in the future.”
The school blog has proved to be extremely popular and not just with readers in the local community.
It has now generated hits from around the globe and even captured the attention of one online enthusiast in New Zealand towards the end of last year.
he class received a letter, a book, a coin and two badges from Rob Marnell.
