Broxtowe MP Anna Soubry visited Larkfields Junior School in Nuthall after a group of pupils sent her individual hand-written letters.
The year five pupils sent the letters as part of a writing project, expressing their views on the need to widen the A453 and extend the tram out to Kimberley.
And as well as writing back to each child, she told teachers she wanted to visit the school to talk to the pupils face-to-face.
Ms Soubry said the letters were ‘beautifully written’.
“Their handwriting is better than mine,” she said.
During the visit the MP met headteacher Peter Taylor and was given a tour of the school by pupils on the school council.
Mr Taylor said: “It was great to see the children asking such good questions and our MP taking the time to answer them. I think they all really enjoyed it.”
