Eastwood and District Men’s Probus Club has welcomed Patrick Hamilton as its new president.

Former Eastwood Mayor Peter Butler handed over the ceremonial chain of office following his successful year at the helm.

Mr.Hamilton,79,of Dawson Close, Newthorpe Common, chaired his first meeting at Greasley Miners’ Welfare and nominated the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Association) as his chosen charity during his year in office.

No stranger to responsibility, he is the Nottingham Branch Secretary of UNISON and during a busy working life was a painter and decorator for ten years and a service manager for Nottingham City Council for 20 years.

Having only joined the Eastwood Men’s Probus Club 18 months ago, Mr.Hamilton is keen to encourage newcomers to join the group which holds its lunch meetings on Monday’s from 12 noon at Greasley Miners’ Welfare.

The Probus Club was first formed in 1985 and held its first meetings at Eastwood Town Football Club. As well as social friendship and opportunities to go on planned outings the club also has regular speakers.
