A £1.2m foundation unit at a school in Nuthall has been opened by the Sheriff of Nottingham.

Cllr Leon Unczer declared the Hempshil Primary School unit open, accompanied by headteacher Helen Ridge, former headteacher Marcia Puckey and the vicar of Nuthall and Kimberley, Barbara Holbrook.

As well as the foundation unit at the school being remodelled and extended, two extra classrooms were built and the kitchen was refurbished.

Cllr Unczer presented the school with a plaque to mark the opening, saying it was a ‘great place’ for children to learn.

Hempshill Primary was built in 1973 to accommodate 40 pupils. It now boasts an intake of around 400.
