MORe people than ever turned out to Nuthall’s annual sports week according to organisers.
The fun-packed event was hosted by Nuthall Parish Council and offered sporting activities for children of all ages on the Basil Russell playing field.
Council clerk Sue Stack said the success had been ‘absolutely brilliant’.
“We had at least 500 people here on Monday, which equalled our best day last year and Tuesday just completely surpassed it,” she said.
“Everybody is really pleased.”
Every day this week there were inflatables, a craft tent, bowling, tennis, a footy hot-shot challenge, circus skills and a children’s play area. There was also a five-a-side football competition, lots of sports training sessions and team games, a penalty shoot out and special workshops and games for the under fives.
Activities ran from 10am until 3pm at the park in Maple Drive.
Ms Stack, who played a big part in organising the sports week, said the idea was to ‘recognise the importance of play and sports activities and the community and encourage community cohesion and integration’.
It was the second time the council has run the event and councillors say they definitely plan to do it all again next year.
