JACK and June Whitten celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary last week.
The Awsworth couple marked the occasion with a big family meal at Morley Hayes Golf Club.
Jack, 85, said the house was ‘like a jungle’ because they had so many flowers, and said his wife June was ‘over-the-moon’ after receiving a card from the Queen.
June said: “I didn’t think I was going to get one so it really made my day. I love the Royals.”
The happy couple both agreed the secret to a long marriage was ‘being together and helping each other’.
Jack and June’s anniversary was last Thursday, March 22, and they took their family of 16 out for a meal the following evening.
“The family were round all the time from the Thursday right up until the Friday night,” added Jack.
“We were chocker with the grandchildren and everything and we got so many flowers the house looks like a jungle!”
The happy couple met dancing at Kimberley Boys School in Newdigate Street and married at a chapel in the town’s Main Street.
They moved to Awsworth from Kimberley in 1988 and live in Meadow Road.
They have two children, Kurt, who is an Awsworth parish councillor, and Carl, along with five grandchildren.
