Eastwood and Kimberley pubs all ready for the big football kick-off
Football fans around Eastwood and Kimberley are preparing flock to re-opened pubs in the towns as the Euros finally kick off this week.
The Euro 2020 tournament, rescheduled after being cancelled last year, gets under way on June 11 and runs for a month.
A total of 24 teams will be playing across 51 matches in 12 cities, with the final taking place at Wembley Stadium in London in July.
The first England game will kick off on Sunday, June 13, at 2pm, and will be against Croatia.
Pubs across the Advertiser district are eagerly awaiting the tournament, with fans set to flood to their locals to watch the games.
The Royal Oak in Westwood has installed a brand new TV outside so people can get together in larger groups, with the rule of six still being enforced indoors.
The pub’s chef Nathan Byrne said: “We’ve got enough seating for around 40 people outside and then many more stood up. Really hoping the weather will be nice for when England play.
“We’ve also got three televisions inside as well – one in our tap room and two in the restaurant area.
“We’re going to have meal baskets with a pint on offer for £7 when England matches are on too.”
The Three Tuns in Eastwood will also be showing every Euro match live, offering seven TVs and one big screen.
There is limited seating at the pub so customers are asked to book a table in advance.
Booking is also required for people planning to watch the football at The Sun Inn.
Oliver’s pub and kitchen has a huge 300-inch projector screen outside and is set to offer a special Euro card for customers, giving them exclusive access to the marquee and discount off food and drink during matches.
Pub owner Kane Oliver said: “I think we’re the only place in Eastwood with a projector this time round. We can fit up to 160 people outside.”
And does our country stand a chance in the tournament?
“England have a chance of winning. We’ll definitely make it to the final I think,” Mr Oliver added.
Other pubs showing the matches include The Wellington Inn, Lady Chatterley, The Stag Inn and The Dog House in Kimberley The Royal Oak in Watnall, Three Ponds in Nuthall and many more.
