Proud mum-of-two Belle Leighton came across the heart-wrenching story of a young Nottinghamshire boy fighting for his life and decided that she must find a way to help.

Archie Warriner, a three-year-old boy, has a very rare hepatoblastoma liver cancer, which has also spread to his lungs.

The tot has undergone six types of chemotherapy but his parents have been told to pray for a miracle.

After hearing about the toddler’s struggles via Facebook one night, Belle was so moved that she sought out Archie’s parents and grandfather and made plans to do a sponsored ten-mile walk around Eastwood.

As Belle suffers from PTSD and ‘has not left the house much in years’, her best friend Tom Coleman offered to do the walk with her.

Belle said: “I know I’m not well but it's nothing compared to what little Archie is going through.

"The whole experience has been incredible. Tom said it was so amazing to take something positive out of the lockdown. The community were fantastic. People were driving round looking for us to give us donations.

"We had car after car stopping in the roads giving us money. Everyone should be really proud of themselves.”

Belle and Tom walked a ten-mile circular route through Eastwood, Greasley, Kimberley, Newthorpe, Moorgreen, and Brinsley on March 28.

The pair’s fundraising target was originally £100 but thanks to generous supporters they managed to raise more than £1,400 through a fundraising page and a bucket collection on the day.

Since taking part in the walk, Belle has been to visit poorly tot Archie in person for the first time.

Scans have recently shown that both his liver and chest have become worse and there is nothing that can be done. Archie is now on palliative care.

Belle added: “It was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. It broke my heart.”

All the money raised through the walk will help to give Archie a better quality of life while he battles on.
