Eastwood salon owner reassures community that beauty parlours are Covid-safe
The owner of a salon in Eastwood is reassuring customers it is safe to book beauty treatments again as lockdown restrictions ease.
After keeping doors shut for the majority of 2020, including the busy Christmas period, salons were also forced to stay closed when England entered its third national lockdown in January.
Finally, beauty parlours across Eastwood and Kimberley were able to reopen to the public earlier this month.
Michelle Davis, owner of the Eastwood Retreat, in Nottingham Road, wants to reassure people that salons are safe places to visit as anxiety about Covid-19 still lingers.
She said: “As some people might still be reluctant, we want to reassure everyone that salons are safe.
"We are all trying our best to be Covid secure.”
The family-run salon was very busy during the opening week but has since experienced more of a lull in bookings.
Michelle added: “It’s so nice to welcome people back and see some familiar faces again.
"Salons are like community hubs, where people come to have a chat and relax – and it’s something people have really missed.
"The first week was absolutely crazy but things seem to be a bit quieter again now.”
Reflecting on a dramatic year, the salon owner said that although lockdown was difficult, it ended up offering an unexpected benefit for the business.
Last June, Michelle took the decision to move the retreat out of its old premises – the Beauty Lounge at Durban House – in order to protect finances and save jobs.
But a number of staff members, including her and her daughters, had previously complained of various problems they experienced with working in the old building.
So although disappointing at the time, the move proved to be a blessing.
Michelle added: “We really like it here so far. All of us are much happier.
"I still don’t think some of our customers are aware that we’ve moved, so I want to let them know that we’re still here.”
The Eastwood Retreat offers a range of hair and beauty treatments.
