Puppy love at Eastwood care home as furry new friend delights residents
A special young puppy is bringing daily smiles and companionship to elderly people at an Eastwood care home.
Bella the bulldog is the latest resident to move in at the Alexandra House care home, offering her own form of support to a group of elderly citizens in need of extra tender loving care.
The new addition to the care home will work on fine tuning her assistance skills as she matures into a fully-grown dog.
Already, the young canine is providing residents with companionship as well as emotional support – and generally lifting spirits for a better sense of wellbeing in day-to-day life.
Lorraine Abbiss, care home manager at Alexandra House, said Bella quickly became part of the family and is well-loved by everyone at the home.
She said: “If a puppy doesn’t melt your heart, I don’t know what will.
"Bella has definitely won over the residents with her very gentle and caring approach and is very much part of the Alex House family now.
“The practical benefits of having Bella here are huge.
"Her presence brings a sense of calm, as well as a lot of humour when she displays her puppy ways.”
The care home manager said the dog has cheered everyone up, especially after such a tough year of Covid restrictions and less visits from friends and family.
She said: “The mental wellbeing supported through this little pup is a joy to see.
"Everyone looks forward to Bella’s next appearance, just to spend time with her, or watch her when she’s being playful, makes everyone so happy.
"She’s a real joy to have.”
Alexandra House care home is a purpose-built modern nursing home, designed to provide the best in nursing, dementia, respite and residential care for older people.
Situated in a quiet cul-de-sac on the outskirts of Eastwood, the home is close to local shops, a pub, church, and bus route into the centre of Eastwood. It is managed by a skilled and experienced team of carers.
Ms Abbiss added: “Comfort in a safe, caring environment awaits you with a very warm welcome.”
