A CAMPAIGN group fighting housing development in Brinsley handed a petition over to councillors containing signatures from 60 per cent of the village’s population.
Jenny Page from the group handed over 1,200 signatures at a recent Broxtowe Borough Council meeting and asked councillors what importance should be placed on the wishes of the community with regards to new housing development.
Ms Page said: “Brinsley is not a community of nimbys. There are good reasons not to build developments in our village. We want the council to listen to the views of the residents.”
The leader of the Liberal Democrats David Watts said the residents will be listened to and thanked the group for presenting such a rational argument.
Broxtowe Borough Council is likely to launch a new consultation on housing plans across the borough later this year.
