EASTWOOD MP Gloria De Piero has raised the issue of a decline in school milk uptake across the area with Education Secretary Michael Gove.
She made the call in Parliament on Monday after being approached by parents and teaching staff unhappy with the way children had to be registered online for the service each term.
The Labour MP asked Mr Gove if he was aware of any problems with parents accessing milk – which may have led to a drop in pupils having it in schools.
Speaking afterwards, Ms De Piero said: “I hope Ministers will look into the current process regarding school milk and make it as efficient and simple as possible.
“If online registration is proving to be an obstacle for some parents then Ministers should examine this process.”
Mr Gove admitted he was unaware of any problems or if a decline in school milk uptake was a national trend.
The Ashfield MP said she would write to the Education Secretary and ask him to look into this and to ensure that the school milk uptake remains as high as possible.
