Postmen see dog attacks double

Royal Mail are appealing to dog owners in Eastwood and Kimberley to keep pets under control as part of Dog Awareness Week after a 48 per cent increase in attacks on postmen in the last year.

Between April 2013 and April 2014, 74 postmen and women were attacked across the NG (Nottinghamshire) postcode with numbers peaking during school holidays.

The annual Dog Awareness Week from June 30 to July 4 aims to improve understanding of dog attacks on postmen and Royal Mail is reminding dog owners to keep animals under control when the postman calls as even the most placid animal can be prone to attack if its territory is being threatened.

New legislation means owners can be prosecuted for attacks on private property.
