Selston pupils raised nearly £2,000 for a kids’ cancer charity at an Olympics event.
Over £1,800 was raised for Clic Sargent Cancer Care by students at Selston Arts and Community College when they held an Olympic extravaganza last Thursday, July 12.
Students took part in range of activities including a fancy dress competition with Olympic tickets as a prize, and a sponsored fancy dress run nicknamed ‘The Mile in Style’.
Other activities included taking on teachers at golf, basketball, rowing and Welly Wanging.
There was face painting, stalls selling cakes, books and jewellery and traditional summer fair games such as Hook a Duck.
A particularly popular attraction was the chance for students to have their photo taken with a real Olympic Torch, carried by college student Georgia Zadins in the recent Olympic torch relay.
Clic Sargent helps support children and families with cancer and was chosen by teachers as the beneficiary of the event because had supported children in the Selston community.
Event organiser Mrs Gregory said how pleased she was that the whole school community had come together to support ‘such an excellent cause’.
