STUDENTS from a school in Derbyshire visited Stepping Stones homeless shelter in Eastwood as part of an English project.

Tibshelf Community School in Alfreton is raising the awareness of homelessness and exploring the lifestyle and difficulties associated with living on the streets.

The eight students who visited the hostel in Church Street prepared a buffet lunch for the residents and organised competitions and quizzes. They interviewed a drugs advisor, a youth support worker, the manager of the hostel Jo Ball and the residents.

Jo Ball said: “It is important to raise awareness of the most vulnerable young adults who have found themselves in vulnerable situations. It was nice to have the students over to see what we do.”

The day was funded by Derbyshire County Council. Stepping Stones houses people aged 16 to 25, many of whom go on to study at the borough’s colleges.
