Rights of way are challenged by council

NOTTINGHAMSHIRE County Council has written to the Government urging it to change the law over rights of way issues claiming it is out-of-date and causes friction between local people and councils.

The letter has been sent by the council’s Rights of Way committee to local government secretary Eric Pickles and environment secretary Caroline Spelman.

The move comes in the wake of recent applications to have ancient footpaths included on the Definitive Map of public rights of way, despite the fact many have never been used and go through homes and gardens.
