The news comes after report that a trader offering to carry out maintenance drive work may be misleading potential customers, and authorities have advised never to emplo traders who make cold calls.

A spokesperson said: "We have received reports of a trader approaching residents falsely claiming to be working for Nottinghamshire County Council offering to carry out driveway maintenance work."

"The Highways Department would never approach individual homes offering to carry out driveway maintenance work.

"Trading Standards never recommend employing a trader based on a cold call - we would advise that any householder who is considering having work done to their property should get quotes from at least three companies before agreeing to go ahead with any work, also speak to friends and relatives for recommendations."
