A CAST of biblical characters was just one of the themes at this year’s Underwood Scarecrow Festival.
Many people chose biblical characters to mark the King James Bible’s 400th anniversary this year.
Over 30 scarecrows were made by residents across Underwood and Bagthorpe in the annual festival last weekend, and were judged by Rev Liz Murray.
Residents picked quiz sheets and maps up from St Michael’s Church before following the trail of scarecrows on display around the village.
The winner was the Frost family, of Fairview Avenue, for their George and the Dragon entry.
Organiser Penny Fell said: “They were all very good so it was a very hard choice. It took Rev Murray two hours to decide who the winner was because it was so hard!”
Mrs Fell said the entries were particularly funny this year.
“They were brilliant,” she said. “One of them even had varicose veins!”
