Supermarket plan is ‘forthcoming’

An application to build a supermarket in Warsop is yet to be submitted, it has been revealed.

Discount store Netto has expressed interest to build on Burns Lane, and has been welcomed by residents and councillors alike.

Despite pitching their ideas to locals last year, the official application is yet to be put in to Mansfield District Council.

But Mansfield District Council’s portfolio for regeneration, Coun David Saunders, says he is not unduly worried by the delay.

Locals had called for the old Strand building on Church Street to be demolished to provide a second entrance to the Netto site.

This was not included in the original plan, and Coun Saunders hopes the delay is being caused by alterations.

He told Warsop Parish Council: “We have been assured that it is forthcoming, that it’s imminent.

“We are hoping that common sense prevails (regarding the Strand building).”

Coun Andy Wetton added: “It’s probably a good sign because they are keeping their options open and are looking at developing the site.

“Hopefully it will suit everybody.”
