RHODA George was treated to a surprise visit from the Mayor of Broxtowe to mark her 95th birthday.
A member of the Partially Sighted Club in Eastwood, Rhoda was taken completely by surprise when Cllr Pat Lally and Mayoress Cllr Lynda Lally turned up to one of their meetings.
Her granddaughter, Deborah Jacks, who works for Broxtowe Borough Council, had organised the visit without Rhoda knowing.
“I wondered what was going on,” she said. I knew nothing about it so it was a really big surprise. I had a lovely, lovely day.”
The birthday girl said she ‘couldn’t see her house for flowers’ by the end of the day.
Members of the Partially Sighted Club, who meet each Thursday at Scalby Close, bought her a bottle of perfume.
Rhoda had one daughter who sadly passed away, two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
