I was somewhat surprised to read your item regarding music noise at the Queens Head, Watnall.
I have to declare an interest as I am a regular customer of the said pub and have been for the past 35 years. I use the pub particularly, as it is a well-run responsible establishment providing good facilities for its customers.
I take some exception to the suggestion that the pub is like a nightclub, as at the age of 67, I would not be spending my evenings there if it was. I have no particular allegiance to John Males (the owner) but in the current difficult climate I applaud him and his staff for keeping a community facility thriving.
Pubs like the ‘Queens’ and its partner the ‘Royal Oak’ down the road, have been part of the Watnall community for around 200 years, and they provide a convivial and structured environment in which people can meet and enjoy each others company.
I do hope that harmony can be restored because the floral displays and welcoming lights of its two pubs, its WI hall and under threat shop/post office, are all that separate Watnall from being another suburb on a busy road.
