The 164th Moorgreen Country Show will take place in Watnall this weekend.

At a time when it has become crucial to know where our food comes from, it’s a golden opportunity to support your local farmers and see their work close up. There will be cattle, sheep, poultry and a dairy milking machine display.

Family entertainment will never be far away, with the thrills of terrier racing, fox hounds and the gun dog challenge, and regular show-goers will be delighted to know that the racing pigs and the dancing diggers will be returning.

There will be a craft tent and a ‘real food’ farmers’ market in the regional food hall, a chain saw sculpture, and the chance to meet a Dalek and one of the stars of the Pirates of the Caribbean – Gizmo, the world famous parrot.

For fans of real ale there’s excellent news with three nearby breweries at the show – Blue Monkey from Giltbrook, Northstar from Ilkeston and Nutbrook from West Hallam.

Add to all this a stunning horticultural tent, show jumping, gate jumping, shire and heavy horse and a ploughing match, plus a fun fair –and you quickly realise that the Moorgreen Show is a champion day out for the whole family.

Adults will cost £12, concessions £9 and children up to the age of 16 will be free. Entry for unaccompanied children will cost £2.

The show will open at 9am on both Sunday and Monday.

There is no charge for parking.
