A festival parade that was in jeopardy after it lost support from the police will take place on July 12.

The Eastwood Family of School Arts Parade will go ahead thanks to traffic management company HW Martins, who will help with road closures at no cost.

The event is organised by staff from Eastwood Comprehensive School who each year secure funding for the parade.

The theme for this year’s event, which takes place between 1pm and 2pm from Chewton Street, is ‘hideous British histories’.

Six schools have been working with a team of artists and carnival specialists to develop a display of processional artwork that reflects the theme.

The organisers still need willing volunteers to marshal the smaller offshoot roads on the parade route which will be coned off. If you would like to volunteer call Sarah Taylor on 01773 786212 ext 123.
