VIDEO: Neighbourhood News – DH Lawrence Society

There is a great buzz of excitement running through the D.H. Lawrence Society, as its next meeting approaches, due to the speaker being the Society’s President, John Worthen (who is widely acknowledged as the greatest living authority on the life and works of D.H. Lawrence), on his return to England after living mainly in Germany for several years.

John Worthen was Professor of DH Lawrence Studies at the University of Nottingham from 1994 to 2003, when he took early retirement in order to write.

Since then he has published a number of biographies, notably of DH Lawrence (2005), Robert Schumann (2007) and TSEliot (2009).

Recently he has been working on a new biography of the great Romantic poet William Wordsworth (the book is actually being published this month) and has already started work on his next project: a biography of the poet and radical Percy Bysshe Shelley. On Wednesday, March 12, Professor Worthen will be addressing the DH Lawrence Society at the D.H.Lawrence Heritage Centre, Eastwood, 7.15pm, with a talk about Lawrence, Wordsworth and Shelley. In his talk, Professor Worthen will discuss Lawrence’s interest in the two great Romantics; he will also explore some little-known links between the three writers and where they lived.

Please don’t miss this wonderful highlight as the DH Lawrence Society celebrates forty years since its formation.

Admission is free (with a discretionary £2 donation towards room hire) and open to all. Non-members welcome.
