Residents are being warned to be aware of rogue traders who are cold calling homes offering £99 ‘energy saving’ devices.
The scam involves callers phoning householders and claiming to be their energy supplier and offering a plug in device which they claim can shave 40 per cent off energy bills.
When tested, the items not only failed to satisfy electrical safety standards but did not deliver any energy savings.
Residents are also being warned about a telephone scam where callers claim to be from a Government department.
The con artists pretend to be from the government, the Office of Fair Trading (OFT), or Ministry of Justice (MOJ) are telling residents they could be entitled to the repayment of bank charges or other debts only to trick victims into handing over hundreds of pounds.
