COLLIERS Wood in Moorgreen has received funding to plant valuable hedgerow.

The woodland got the funding from the Greenwood Community Tree Planting grant scheme. It paid for tree whips to create new hedgerows and remedial infill to some existing hedges.

The Friends of Colliers Wood, who look after the site, planted 32 metres of new hedgerow leading to the car park entrance, as well as planting infill whips along a 14 metre stretch of existing hedge.

The new hedgerow is a mix of different species, predominantly hawthorn, with about one-third of the whips being a mixture of holly, blackthorn, hazel and field maple.

Hedgerows are being gradually expanded at the site to provide refuge for wildlife. The berries and seeds nuts will be a source of food.
