AFC put five past Erewash

Long Eaton Sunday League

Erewash Hotel 2

AFC Kimberley 5

AFC Kimberley returned to winning ways with a big victory over Erewash Hotel.

After Reilly Marshall had gone close to opening the scoring early on, the visitors did find the net on 13 minutes when Reilly Marshall chased a ball over the top and smashed it home.

The second goal came on 21 minutes, when Marshall was fouled in the penalty area and Gary Pickering fired home the spot-kick.

But a mistake by Matt Newton allowed Erewash in before the break to reduce the arrears to 2-1.

And the hosts were level just a minute into the second-half, when the ball was smashed home from eight yards out after a corner hadn’t been cleared.

AFC now needed to show character to get a grip back on the game and once again, like so many times already this season, they did just that.

Some fine football on 61 minutes resulted in a through ball for James Else who broke the offside trap before slotting the ball past the keeper.

The result was put beyond doubt 15 minutes from the end after the best move of the game which included a clever back-heel from Lloyd Harmer to find Marshall who skinned a defender before seeing his shot saved, but Marshall reacted quickest and got to the ball before being tripped again for AFC’s second penalty of the game, Pickering again doing the honours.

Man-of-the-match Marshall hit the post from distance five minutes from time, but it was he who rounded the scoring off in injury-time to make it 5-2.
