Eastwood took a point from a very scrappy local derby with Hucknall Rolls Leisure on Saturday as the two sides battled out for a 1-1 draw.
‘Wood started the game the better side and forced several corners but couldn’t break the hosts down.
They then took the lead on 38 minutes in bizarre fashion, as in trying to throw the ball out, Rolls goalkeeper Jack Walker instead got caught in two minds and managed to throw the ball into his own net and ‘Wood were in front.
Just before half-time, Eastwood keeper Andy Fretwell then pulled off a good save to deny Matt Rick and ensure the visitors went into the break in front.
The second-half was similarly scrappy to the first and although Eastwood had opportunities to go two goals ahead, it was Hucknall who would get the next goal as Kane Matthews ran through to net the leveller on 68 minutes.
That was the end of the scoring as Eastwood held on to earn a point which kept them top of the mini group of three teams adrift at the bottom of the Central Midlands League South.
On Wednesday night, there was cup heartbreak for Eastwood as a late winner for Belper United saw them progress to the Phoenix Floodlit Cup final at the expense of Paul MacFarland’s men.
Jake Danby saw an early shot go wide for the visitors and they also had a goal disallowed before half-time after it was deemed the goalkeeper had been fouled.
Belper then took the lead early in the second-half with a fine curling effort from Sam Vickers, but Eastwood fought back and after Danby and Frazer Dulson had seen efforts go close, Lee Bull placed a fine effort into the bottom corner of the net to level the scores.
Dave Worger fired too high for Eastwood soon afterwards but they were beaten in the 87th minute as another powerful strike from Vickers sealed Belper the win.
Eastwood are next in action on Saturday when they host Southwell City at Coronation Park with a 3pm kick-off.
