Haxey CC’s third team have gained promotion on the final day of their cricketing season - without even playing.
The weekend marked the final end to the cricket season with just one match remaining in the Amazing Smile North Lindsey League’s Division Two between championship-chasing Alkborough and Luddington.
An under-strength Luddington side were eventually undone by Alkborough who clinched the league title, adding it to the Amazing Smile NLL Knockout Cup which they lifted a week earlier.
Luddington were invited to bat first, making 107 thanks in the main to 30 from Rick Green.
Further contributions came from Arron Curry, who struck 16, Graham Clark with 15 and Andrew Clark with 13.
Home skipper Paul Mitchell took 3 for 28 then Callum Render hit 43 and Dave Kilgallon 39 not out to guide the victorious Alkborough side to a comfotrable win.
Alkborough’s win also led to Haxey CC’s third team (pictured) claiming the second promotion spot by virtue of their better head to head results over Outcasts’ third string. Both sides ended the season level on 19 points with an identical record in their ten league games.
Haxey’s thirds’ triumph concludes a highly successful cricketing campaign for the Isle side with its second team winning their league and the u11s, u13s and u15s all clinching championship titles.
