Kimberley thirds slip up at home

Kimberley ICC 3rd XI 135 all out lost to Caunton CC 1st XI 184-8 by 49 runs

There was disappointment at the Basil Russell where Kimberley third XI slipped to defeat by 49 runs against visiting Caunton.

Batting first Caunton compiled a respectable 184-8 from their 45 overs with Sam Wagstaff top scoring with an unbeaten 39.

Matt Ross (2-43) and Martyn Stackhouse (2-28) were the most successful of the Kimberley bowlers with Alex Beale, Raj Patel and Charlie Walters picking up a wicket apiece.

Sadly it was another case of a misfiring middle-order in reply as, other than a well compiled 47 from young Jack Blatherwick, none of the top six made it past 11.

Connor Richardson (21) was the only other batsman to pass 20 although Charlie Walters (15*) might have had he not been left stranded at the end with Kimberley all out for 135 in the 43rd over with Jonathan Neal (5-37) taking his fifth wicket in the process.

Despite the defeat the third XI are still second in Division J and their promotion hopes are very much alive
