Langley Mill 1sts travelled to Nutbrook on Saturday looking to get back to winning ways in Division Two of the Derbyshire County Cricket League.

Nutbrook was the scene of their worst performance in many years and so the Millers were hoping to banish that memory.

The only thing that stood between that and a performance was the weather.

Losing the toss, the Millers were asked to bat first and in the first over Lewis Pinder chipped one back to Max Magann to leave the Millers a little jittery at 11-1.

In a new batting order, Jack Scott was promoted up the order and he, along with Jamie Salmons, began to settle the Millers nerves and put a good footing down.

But that was as far as it got as lightning intervened and play was suspended.

Just before the break, Scott was bowled by Wakefield for 31. Jamie Salmons finished on 63 not out and that was the end of play as a large monsoon saturated Nutbrook’s ground, the Millers finishing on 120 for 2 off 26.4 from their alloted 37 overs.

Nevertheless, this was a promising return after the last two weeks of better disappointment.

This week sees the Millers host South Wingfield. They will be hoping for a win to put some daylight between them and the teams below them, having been dragged down to eighth. The match has a 1.30pm start.
