Junior Football: Three teams maintain their perfect starts

Three Priory teams are sitting proudly on top of their respective divisions with a 100 per cent record.

The U14 Whites saw off West Bridgford Knight’s 4-1 with goals from Matthew Hallam, Kyle Howden, Josh Whyte and Kade McLean on Saturday, whilst the U13s faced a tough-looking trip up to Mansfield to play Derwent Rangers on Sunday.

However they returned with three points after a 5-3 win with Kurtis Spencer claming a hat-trick, along with a brace from Kai Boultby.

The newly formed U12 Blacks continued their good start to the season with a comprehensive 11-1 win over local rivals Moorgreen Colts, Liam Garner and Brandon Chadwick both scoring four, Jayden Smith two and Jack Wolverson the other.

Other games from Saturday saw the U12 Whites throw away two points after surrendering a 2-0 half-time lead at West Bridgford Hurricances.

First-half strikes from Liam Garner and Jack Wolverson looked like setting the Whites on the way to an easy win.

But a lack of concentration amongst the team saw the Hurricanes strike back to claim a deserved point.

The U12 greens took the lead at home to Holy Spirit, but this kicked their opposition into the next gear as they eventually ran out 8-3 winners.

The U11 Whites couldn’t follow up their great start to the season, losing 4-2 in a six goal thriller at West Hallam.

The U10s lost 3-1 at home to Hucknall Sports, Taylor Stubbs claiming the consolation goal.

Wayne Walker’s U8 Saturday squad put in a superb performance at home to Bagthorpe Athletic, which saw Brooklyn Read win the man-of-the-match award. The U7 squads enjoyed a morning at the Cotgrave Tournament and the U9 teams took part in a mini-festival at the YEL Soccer Centre on Clifton Campus.

Sunday’s action centred around a busy Kimberley Leisure Centre.

The U7 Whites entertained Ravenshead Reds, Dylan Castledine winning the man-of-the-match, whilst the ever-improving U9 Hoops drew 1-1 with Rolls Royce, Thomas Charles claiming the award.

The U12 Hoops went down 5-2 at home to Rise Park, the U8 Whites travelled to East Leake and Ben Hodgkinson’s new U7 Hoops took part in a round-robin event at Kimberley MW along with Rolls Royce.

The U14 Girls had a less than fruitful trip as they travelled to Nottingham Forest and unlike Derby County they didn’t return with any points but did score a goal.

The club’s AGM takes place on Monday, September 22 at The Royal Oak, Watnall, starting at 8pm.
