Round-up by Mick Gorman
DUE to unforeseen circumstances only two matches have been played since my last report, with games against Players Bowls Club and Proprietary Bowls Club cancelled after both resigned from their respective leagues.
On Tuesday the third Greasley travelled to Russell Bowls Club. Despite two rinks winning, the third rink lost heavily and the accumulated points gave Russell the victory.
Another away fixture on Saturday the 7th saw Greasley at Arnold Park Bowls Club. It is always a difficult match against a very good bowling side. Arnold Park proved to be too strong for Greasley, particularly at this early stage of the season.
Despite the loss there was a definite improvement in the quality of the Greasley bowling. The rink of John Armstrong, Bryn Chambers, Ken Sheldon and skip Clayton Wardle did exceptionally well to win comfortably against very good opponents.
David Williams made his debut for Greasley as a lead bowler. He made an excellent start, bowling consistently well throughout the match.
On Saturday Porchester Bowls Club visit Coronation Park, before further home matches on Tuesday the 17th versus Trent Vale and Wednesday the 18th against Nuthall.
