Phoenixwood Gymnastics Club in Eastwood has benefited to the tune of £1,000 thanks to a donation from a leading housebuilder.

The club, which has more than 100 members aged from four to 13, will use the money given to them by Taylor Wimpey to buy new FIG standard equipment to enhance their gymnasts’ preparation process ahead of competitions.

Head coach Dean Bartram says: “We are a small community club run mainly by volunteers but our members compete at a regional standard, and are hoping to enter our first National Grades competition next year, which is a massive achievement as we are based in a tiny school hall.

“This is a large amount of money for a club likes ours to find, so we are extremely grateful to Taylor Wimpey for their generous donation.

“The new bar will be well used by all of our members, from our beginners group through to our elite squads.

“Some of our girls come along for the social element and the chance to make new friends, while others are looking to develop their skills.

“Gymnastics is great for increasing their self-esteem and building confidence, and this new equipment will aid all of the above.”

This is the second time Taylor Wimpey has lent its support to the club.

Last year it received £500 from the housebuilder which funded a new beam.

Mariana Knight, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey East Midlands, saysid: “We’re delighted to be able to offer this donation to Phoenixwood Gymnastics Club to help their members reach the highest standards they can possibly achieve in the sport.

“We hope the youngsters enjoy training on their new equipment and that it leads to many future successes for this growing gymnastics club.”

Phoenixwood Gymnastics Club is based at Eastwood Community Sports Centre.
