Eastwood CFC’s upturn in fortunes has continued with fine victories in both league and cup.

On Saturday, Paul MacFarland’s side went to fellow strugglers Southwell City and recorded their second win of the season by trouncing their hosts 4-1, a result that helped confirm the Coronation Park side as the CML’s Team of the Month for February.

Despite the scoreline, the game was a hard-fought affair but in the end two goals from Kye Hall and further strikes from Tom Budd and Lewis Bently lifted the Reds up to third from bottom - their highest position all season.

Next up in the league, Eastwood will travel to bottom-of-the-table Holbrook on Saturday (7th) looking to launch a pursuit on Harrowby Saints who sit seven points above them in 13th.

Then will come the trip to play Hucknall Town at Watnall Road on March 14, before the next home game sees the return fixture against Southwell City on Wednesday, March 18.

Following their successes in the league, Eastwood then marched into the semi-finals of the Pheonix Trophies Floodlit Cup South with a 2-1 win after extra-time at Blidworth Welfare on Tuesday night.Dave Worger and Kye Hall the scorers.

Following the announcement of Eastwood CFC as Team of the Month, the club’s board issued an official statement hailing the progress being made.

It said: “The board would like to express their sincere thanks and offer their congratulations to Paul MacFarland and his team of staff and players for winning the award and for the passion, determination, commitment and professionalism demonstrated in the last few months.

“Paul’s job has been an incredibly difficult one and many would have thrown in the towel and walked away but he has worked unbelievably hard and gradually built a team of staff and players who are equally committed to seeing the club thrive on and off the field.”
