Heanor archer Hollie Smith is celebrating after being selected for the Great Britain compound team for the European Youth Championships in May.
Hollie, 14, will travel to Heviz, Hungary for the competition from May 1-8.
The selection of the Heanor Gate Science College student was based on scores she shot in 2015, together with her progress through the Archery GB Winter training squads.
Out in Eastern Europe, Hollie will compete in the cadet class (17 and under) as an individual and she could also potentially qualify to shoot in the three-person team event and mixed team (one girl, one boy).
The Amber Valley teenager is looking to gain as much experience as possible from the trip to help her in the future events such as the European Championships in July and the World Championships to follow in 2017.
“I am extremely happy and proud to have been selected for Great Britain in the European Youth Cup,” said Hollie, who won the Derbyshire Senior Championship earlier this month.
“After having a tough year in 2015, it shows I’m heading back in the right direction and I have been working extremely hard on all aspects of my archery, from technique to the mental side.
“I’m looking forward to putting all the training together and competing for Team GB.
“We have an amazing amount of talent in the compound team, and I’m sure there will be medals coming home.”
Hollie was due to join up with the GB squad at Lilleshall last weekend for two days of intense training and bow set up.
She will be using upcoming tournaments as pressure training events to ready herself for the trip to Hungary.
Alongside this, Hollie will working very closely with her coach, Simon Scott, who has been with her since the age of seven, at local Derbyshire club Derwent Bowmen.
