Rain hits weekend games but there’s midweek joy for Selston

Notts Senior League

The weather was the main winner in the NSL last weekend, with many matches across all three divisions and in the cups falling victim to waterlogged pitches.

In Division One, Awsworth Villa were able to play at Linby Colliery Welfare Reserves but fell to their 11th straight defeat as the hosts won 3-2, Channon Davis and Mitchell Scott scoring Villa’s goals.

In Division Two, Underwood Villa Reserves might have wished their game at Newark Town Reserves had also been postponed as they lost 8-3, Sam Tring and Charlie Green among the goals for Underwood.

The Intermediate Cup saw Kimberley Miners Welfare Reserves win 4-0 at Netherfield Albion, Danny Chaplin scoring twice with Tom Richards and Jack Tucker also on target.

More action took place in midweek and Kimberley Miners Welfare Reserves were back in action as they headed to Southwell City Reserves and won 2-1, the result putting them third in the table, Shaun Chapman scoring both of their goals.

On Wednesday night, Selston were in action in the Notts Senior Cup with a trip to big-spending AFC Mansfield and pulled off a surprise but impressive win thanks to a goal from Jay Cooper 18 minutes from time as he netted a rebound after Dominic Airey’s shot had been saved.
