Notts Senior League

Attention turned to the Notts Senior Cup for Selston at the weekend - and it proved to be a case of despair followed by joy.

They lost 4-2 at Greenwood Meadows, Jay Cooper and Damien James scoring, but were soon reinstated into the competition after it was revealed Greenwood had fielded ineligible players.

Selston will return to league action on October 25 four points behind leaders Cotgrave and with a game in hand on them, Cotgrave having been beaten on Saturday.

In Division One, Underwood Villa lost ground on leaders Newark Flowserve as they could only draw 0-0 at home to Wollaton Reserves, Villa now four points behind Newark but with a game in hand.

Kimberley MW Reserves are fourth after a 2-2 draw with Netherfield Albion, Josh Lewis and Corey Wilson with Welfare’s goals.

Things get no better for Awsworth Villa Reserves, however, as they made it nine defeats in nine with a 5-2 loss at home to Ashland Rovers, Josh Gaughan and Kieran Saxton with their goals.

It’s now eight wins out of nine for Kimberley Miners Welfare AFC in Division Two as they were 1-0 winners at Calverton Miners Welfare, Anthony Withe scoring Welfare’s goal.

They are six points clear of Watnall Athletic in second, although Welfare also have a game in hand.

Athletic were emphatic 8-1 winners over sixth-placed Bilborough Town Reserves.

Underwood Villa Reserves lie in eighth spot in the table after they were held to a 2-2 draw at Aspley Park, Sam Tring on target for both of Villa’s goals.
