SELSTON Town Cricket Club have announced plans for the 40th anniversary of the reformation of the club on the Parish Hall ground.
The club was formally founded on February 29, 1972, and to celebrate the anniversary milestone, they are staging a reunion dinner at the Derbyshire Hotel, South Normanton, on Saturday, March 10.
The event is open to all former players, officials and friends who have been involved with the club over the last 40 years.
Current club chairman Kieron Egan said: “As a club, we have turned the corner having nearly folded around eight years ago when we were down to no youth teams and about 13 players.”
“But, as of now, we have two Kwik cricket teams, the under-13s and under-15s sides, a first XI in the Derbyshire County League, a Sunday League team and in 2012 we are reinstating the second team in the County League.
“We’d also like to invite any interested players thinking of a change of club for the 2012 season to contact us in confidence.
“We are preferably looking at players to supplement our first team in Division 5 North, to allow for some of the ‘more seasoned’ players to drop down.”
Selston currently have Dan Birch (ex-Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire) coaching once a week which the club pays for, mainly for the juniors, but senior sessions have also been held.
