AFC Hucknall 4

Kimberley Town 2

Kimberley made the short trip to Hucknall to play their third game of the season with just a squad of 14 to choose from given injuries and unavailability.

Disaster struck after only three minutes as a cross came in from the right only which appeared to be handled into the net by the Hucknall centre forward, but despite protestations from the Kimberley players the goal was given.

Kimberley were never out of the game and squandered five simple chances to take the lead, one of which being an open goal.

But the hosts grew in confidence and the second goal arrived before the break from the same scorer as the first.

It was hoped that changes in personnel and formation at half-time would do the trick but with time running out AFC took advantage to score again.

But Kimberley were far from beaten and following good work from White his inch perfect pass found Willmott who slotted the ball home to reduce the arrears.

Kimberley now looked more positive but, as so often happens, gaps appeared and Hucknall scored again to go 4-1 ahead.

The visitors were still able to notch a consolation goal when White slotted home their second, but it was too little too late and the Stags were left to rue their first-half wastefulness.

Kimberley: Dye, Bartley, Davey, Higginbottom, Cluxton, Havenhand, Aikiman, Spencer, White, Willmott, Edge. Subs: Lynch, Anderson, Hopewell.

This weekend Kimberley will host Newark Town, kick-off 3pm.

The following week the FA Vase sees the Stags away at Peterborough side Blackstones.

l Kimberley Town are still recruiting and looking primarily for a centre-half and a proven goalscorer.

All other positions will also be considered.
