GREASLEY racing driver Chris Swanwick has taken part in a semi-exclusive day for the new Next Generation Touring Cars at Rockingham Circuit.
Swanwick, who has been given the opportunity to stake a claim for a place on the British Touring Car series with Rob Austin Racing,
Driving the team’s Audi A4 in what can only be described as atrocious conditions, with heavy rain falling for most of the day, Swanwick was less than half a second off his experienced team mate and team manager Rob Austin.
Swanwick, who will compete in at least one of the remaining rounds of the British Touring Car Championship this year, and who at 17 will become the second youngest driver in its 50-year history, said: “At times it was a little hairy out there.
“The rain was falling that fast it was really difficult to see, but at least now I have driven the car in the wet and the dry - it’s no good just being a dry weather driver in this country.”
Swanwick, who had his upgraded licence come through last week, now hopes to complete one more test day before taking part in his first British Touring Car meeting.
